About

Alla Volkova is an LA-based film director and writer who expertly merges comedic and visual storytelling in both commercial and narrative realms. Driven by her deep passion for grounded, character-focused performances, she excels in both scripted dialogue and improv.

Alla started her journey in comedy by creating and writing the first season of the web series titled ‘The Mortician’ for Radiant Studios in 2019. The following year she directed her first comedy spot ‘Your Boobs Deserve ThirdLove’ for ThirdLove and Harmon Brothers. The spots she directed earned multiple Gold Telly and Gold ADDY Awards. In 2023, Alla was a Finalist in The Commercial Directors Diversity Program, the initiative that aims to increase the representation of minority and women directors. In 2024 she was one of the Finalists in the Alliance of Independent Representatives Unsigned Diverse Directors Showcase.

Originally from a small town in Siberia, Alla holds an MFA in Directing from the American Film Institute Conservatory. Her award-winning thesis film, ‘Dreamland’ received a Best Student Film Award at HollyShorts Film Festival and Best Cinematography Award nomination at Camerimage in Poland. It was a part of the Cannes Short Film Corner and was featured in The American Cinematographer, among other accolades.

Alla is currently in development for her first comedy feature film and proof of concept short film titled ‘Everything Sucks in America’.
